St. Norbert College soccer draws with Lawrence, women fall to Lake Forest, volleyball shutout by Westminster

St. Norbert College’s athletic teams saw mixed results in their latest non‑conference contests. The men’s soccer squad opened the day with a hard‑fought draw against Lawrence University, while the women’s soccer team suffered a 2‑0 loss to Lake Forest College. Later, the volleyball team closed the Chick‑fil‑A Invitational with a straight‑set defeat to Westminster College.

Men’s Soccer: 1‑1 Tie with Lawrence

Playing at Schneider Stadium, the Green Knights (2‑1‑1) struck first when Everett Saeger netted his season‑opening goal at 4:51, assisted by Hayden Dunn. Lawrence responded later in the first half, equalizing through Daito Sho at 24:13. St. Norbert’s defense forced three saves from Lawrence’s goalkeeper Christian Puebla, but the Knights could not add a second goal. Lawrence finished the match with ten men after Alan McIntosh received a second yellow card at 81:08. The Knights outshot the Vikings 14‑7, and goalkeeper Jackson Kiszka recorded two saves. Non‑conference play will conclude Sunday when St. Norbert travels to Carroll University.

Women’s Soccer: 2‑0 Defeat to Lake Forest

At Farwell Field in Lake Forest, Illinois, the Green Knights (1‑4‑1) were unable to break through the Foresters’ defense. Early chances came from Shelby Busch and Addie Schneider, whose shots were saved by Lake Forest’s goalkeeper Sara Swenson. Madi Hacker also generated two attempts that were turned aside. The first half ended scoreless, but Lake Forest opened the scoring at 49:04 when Sophia Key found the net, and doubled the lead at 59:56 with a goal by Annabelle Schroeder. St. Norbert was outshot 28‑8; goalkeeper Leah Hess made ten saves for the Knights, while Swenson recorded four saves and teammate Maddie Geasey added two for Lake Forest.

Volleyball: 3‑0 Loss to Westminster College

In the final match of the Chick‑fil‑A Invitational, St. Norbert fell to Westminster College (Mo.) at the Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center. The Bluejays won three straight sets, 25‑22, 25‑16, and 25‑17. The Knights briefly trailed 19‑18 and tied the opening set at 20‑20 and 21‑21, but Westminster responded with a decisive 4‑1 run to close the set. St. Norbert never led in the remaining two sets.

Offensively, the Knights hit .078 for the match, recording 30 kills on 115 attempts with 21 errors. Leading the attack were Alli Clark (six kills), Frances McGann (five), and Annaliesse Schmall (four). Flynn Puttin contributed 11 assists. Service aces were recorded by Maddie Kitowski and Keira Ashenfelter (two each). Defensively, Kitowski led with eight digs, while Raina Ledzian added five. Clark and Kayden Lamon each posted three blocks.

These results leave St. Norbert’s men’s soccer with a .500 record in non‑conference play, the women’s soccer team looking to rebound after a tough loss, and the volleyball squad seeking to improve its hitting efficiency as the season progresses.
