Planned Parenthood Great Rivers announced that its Springfield clinic, located at 626 E. Battlefield Rd., will begin providing medication abortions for unborn children up to 12 weeks pregnant.
Expansion of Abortion Services
The expansion of abortion services in Springfield follows a mid-June court ruling that struck down many of Missouri’s regulations on abortions. According to Planned Parenthood, the ruling allows them to provide medication abortions, which were previously restricted by state laws.
Dr. Margaret Baum, chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood Great Rivers, stated that the organization aims to ensure that Missourians can access timely and evidence-based care for reproductive health. Margot Riphagen, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Rivers, added that the organization is committed to bringing essential healthcare closer to home for hundreds of thousands of people living in the Missouri Ozarks.
Voters in Missouri will be asked to consider another abortion ban with limited exceptions in the November election. Amendment 3 would repeal the 2024 voter-approved amendment that enshrined access to abortions in the state constitution.
