Spring Hill, Fla. – Early Saturday morning, Jack Reid, a father from Hernando Beach, was driving his vehicle on U.S. 19 near Spring Hill Drive when a large pickup truck approached from behind. According to Reid, the truck driver tried to change lanes and struck the corner of his car.
Impact and aftermath
The collision caused Reid’s vehicle to spin, flip end‑over‑end, and come to rest on its wheels. The impact shattered the windshield and left the car totaled, but Reid walked away without serious injury. He said a witness who stopped to check on him turned around and continued on.
Reid’s response
“Today as I sit, I am very grateful that I’m here,” Reid told reporters. “I am super grateful that I’m able to sit here and not only hold her and still be with her, but also be able to talk about this.” He added that the experience has made him hug his family a little tighter.
Sheriff’s office asks for tips
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it is actively investigating the crash but has not yet identified the pickup driver. Reid has posted the dash‑camera footage to social media, hoping that anyone who saw the incident or recognizes the truck will come forward.
Deputy Sheriff James Miller, spokesperson for the office, said, “We are reviewing all available video and witness statements. Any information that can help us locate the driver of the pickup truck would be greatly appreciated.” He encouraged residents to submit tips through the department’s online portal or by calling the tip line.
Road safety reminder
Reid also used the incident to urge fellow motorists to drive responsibly. “Slow down, pay attention, and be careful on the road,” he said. The sheriff’s office echoed that message, reminding drivers that lane changes should be made only when it is safe to do so.
