Shreveport, La. – In a move aimed at strengthening local transportation options, SporTran opened its new Gateway Transit Hub at Shreveport Regional Airport on Friday. The facility, located at 4821 Hollywood Avenue, is designed to give riders faster, more convenient connections to jobs, schools and health‑care appointments throughout the city’s west side.
Improved service for commuters and airport staff
“We’re trying to reduce commute times and make sure people can get where they need to go,” said SporTran CEO Dinero’ Washington. “For years we ran everything through our downtown terminal. This hub lets us centralize service and reach all areas of Shreveport without forcing everyone through downtown.”
When the hub officially opens next Tuesday, six routes will operate through the new station, including several brand‑new lines that serve neighborhoods previously lacking frequent service. The addition of these routes is expected to cut travel times for both daily commuters and airport employees as the airport expands its capacity.
Safety and technology upgrades
To enhance passenger safety, SporTran will install cameras equipped with artificial‑intelligence technology at the Gateway Hub and other key locations. The AI system is intended to monitor activity in real time, helping staff respond quickly to any incidents and maintain a secure environment for riders.
Funding and community impact
The project was funded through grants earmarked for public transportation improvements. Washington emphasized that the hub will not only benefit riders but also the broader community by making it easier for families to reach work, school and medical appointments.
