Valencia, Spain – iPronics, a spin‑off from the Technical University of Valencia, announced a $125 million venture round that includes Nvidia among its backers. The funding will accelerate the company’s work on a next‑generation optical circuit switch (OCS) designed to make data‑center networks more resilient and compact.
Why the new switch matters
Modern AI data centers house hundreds of thousands of computing chips, and a single chip failure can disrupt services. iPronics’ OCS can detect a failure in minutes and instantly rewire the network, keeping workloads running without the long downtimes once common in large‑scale facilities. Founder and chief technical officer Daniel Pérez‑López said the goal is “a resilient and reliable network that is able to basically rewire itself.”
Size reduction for server racks
The company aims to shrink the physical footprint of its OCS equipment by roughly 20‑fold, allowing many more switches to fit inside a standard server rack. This could lower costs for AI infrastructure providers while preserving the rapid fault‑tolerance that Google’s own optical switches have demonstrated.
Funding and investors
The round was co‑led by Maverick Silicon and Light Street Capital, with participation from Triatomic Capital, Bosch Ventures, Catalight Capital and the European Innovation Council Fund. To date, iPronics has raised $177 million since its 2019 founding.
While the company declined to name specific customers, it confirmed that large AI infrastructure providers are already using its switches, which have been in limited production for about a year.
With this new capital, iPronics expects to scale production, further shrink its technology, and help data centers worldwide meet the growing demand for fast, reliable AI computing.
