A South Florida woman is millions of dollars richer after hitting the top prize on a scratch-off ticket bought during a trip to the grocery store.
The Florida Lottery announced that Monica Rubio, 49, of Sunny Isles, walked away with a one-time, lump-sum payment of $7,752,000.00. She officially claimed her winnings at the Lottery’s Miami District Office on March 10.
Rubio purchased the lucky ticket at the Publix supermarket located at 14641 Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami Beach.
The winning ticket came from the “$10,000 A WEEK FOR LIFE” scratch-off game. While the game’s title highlights a lifetime weekly payout, the Florida Lottery offers winners the choice to take the massive one-time cash value instead, which Rubio opted to do.
The $20 scratch-off game features more than $225 million in total cash prizes. According to Florida Lottery records, the game launched with a total of four top prizes of $10,000 a week for life. The overall odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in 2.96.
