Mokoena, who was emotional during the pre-game national anthem, said he was thinking about his late grandfather and felt his presence during the game. "I know, wherever he is, he would be proud of me," Mokoena said.
The Czech Republic took the lead in the sixth minute with a goal from Michal Sadilek, but South Africa’s draw keeps their chances of advancing to the round of 32 alive. South Africa will next face South Korea on Wednesday, while the Czech Republic will face Mexico.
