Sony is poised to benefit from the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, a highly anticipated game that will be released on November 19. The game will be available on the PlayStation 5, and according to Serkan Toto, founder of Kantan Games consultancy, the vast majority of new users will choose the PS5.
Rising Memory Prices
However, the launch of GTA VI comes as Sony is grappling with rising memory prices. The company has repeatedly raised prices for its consoles due to AI investment-driven memory price rises. Despite securing memory supply for this financial year, Sony expects prices to continue to be high next year.
The launch of GTA VI will help to soften the decline of PS5 hardware sales this year and support growth in software sales, according to analyst Piers Harding-Rolls at Ampere Analysis. Take-Two Interactive Software, the company behind GTA VI, has sold almost 230 million units of Grand Theft Auto V since its launch in 2013.
PS5 Price Point
The PS5’s price point is now higher than ideal, with the base version of GTA VI priced at $79.99. The game will be digital-only, and Sony plans to stop making physical discs from 2028. This move has sparked debate among gamers and is seen as a major milestone in the entertainment industry’s shift away from physical media.
