A new nonprofit in Socorro, Texas, is working to unite the community through various forms of art, including theater, music, and other creative expressions.
Jornada Del Muerto Production
The nonprofit is currently preparing for a production of Jornada Del Muerto, a play that tells the story of the Piro people and Spaniards who left New Mexico after the Pueblo Revolt of 1680. This historical story explores the personal challenges and cultural conflicts faced by refugees crossing the Jornada Del Muerto desert, who later founded the Socorro Mission and helped build the communities that are now part of El Paso’s Mission Valley.
Actors are invited to audition for this production, which aims to bring the community together through the shared experience of art and history.
