Socialist candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani swept the Democratic primaries in New York, potentially challenging Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. Ana Navarro, co-host of “The View”, warned Schumer that he is in danger of being challenged by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Socialist Victories
Three congressional candidates, Brad Lander, Claire Valdez, and Darializa Avila Chevalier, won their elections on platforms aligned with Mamdani’s socialist economic agenda, anti-Israel posture, and opposition to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Navarro spoke about the elections on CNN’s “Newsnight” and the “Behind the Table” podcast, stating that the election results make it more likely that Ocasio-Cortez will challenge Schumer in a Democratic primary for the New York U.S. Senate.
Schumer’s office did not immediately return a request for comment, but he told the New York Post that the primary results show a “great united party” with energy from all areas of the party.
