SoCalGas is introducing new gray uniforms to help customers identify genuine utility employees. The updated uniforms feature prominent SoCalGas branding and the employee’s first name. This change aims to prevent imposters from posing as gas company technicians, following reports of individuals with bad intentions wearing utility company-type uniforms.
Law enforcement sources have reported several instances of criminals wearing such uniforms to gain access to homes. In one incident, a Whittier family encountered three men, one wearing a reflective vest, who attempted to convince them to allow entry. The family refused and noticed one of the men had a gun as they walked away.
SoCalGas employees will also carry company-issued photo identification badges and drive clearly marked SoCalGas vehicles. Customers are advised to ask for an ID badge before allowing anyone on their property.
