A recent survey of 501 small business owners across the United States reveals the challenges entrepreneurs face in today’s business environment. The survey, conducted by ERGO NEXT, found that 33% of small business owners worry about unexpected issues and the risk of closure at least once a week. This number increases to 44% for new business owners in their first year of operation.
Risks and Challenges
The survey highlights the various risks and challenges small business owners face, including economic downturn, inflation, and digital risks. Many entrepreneurs are concerned about the impact of these risks on their business and are taking steps to mitigate them. Understanding business risk is one thing, but living with it every day is another. The small business risk landscape is becoming increasingly complex, exposing business owners to a wider range of threats than many anticipated when launching their companies.
Insurance stands out as one of the most common lessons learned by entrepreneurs. When asked what they wished they had done earlier to better protect their business, 43% of entrepreneurs cited understanding what insurance coverage they needed. Despite the challenges, many small business owners remain optimistic about their future. Half of all entrepreneurs are very confident they will still be in business in five years.
