A recent survey of 2,000 Americans revealed that over a fifth of respondents have broken up with a partner due to their annoying sleep habits. The survey, commissioned by Avocado Green Mattress, found that 17% of respondents ended a relationship solely due to their ex-partner’s disruptive nighttime habits, while 6% said this was part of why the relationship failed.
Most Annoying Sleep Habits
Snoring was the most common complaint, with 62% of respondents mentioning it as a reason for their breakup. Other annoying habits included excessive tossing and turning, stealing the covers, watching TV while in bed, and getting up during the night to use the bathroom.
According to Laura Scott, director of brand marketing at Avocado Green Mattress, communication is key to resolving sleep habit conflicts. “As wonderful as it can be to share a bed with someone you love, it can also be difficult to mesh two sleep schedules and all the various sleep habits we each have,” she said.
Despite the challenges, many Americans are willing to accept their partner’s disruptive sleep habits. Two-thirds of respondents said they’re willing to compromise, and some have taken steps to alleviate the issues, such as trying supplements or medication, sleeping in separate beds or bedrooms, or changing their mattress.
