Prosecutors allege that Burke, 21, stabbed Rivas Hernandez to death when she arrived at his home in Hollywood. The two had been in a relationship, and Rivas Hernandez had sent Burke angry and profane texts the night before her death, threatening to tell her dad about their relationship and to end Burke’s career.

Detective Corey Farrell of the Los Angeles Police Department read the texts in court, which were obtained from warrants on Burke’s iPhone and iCloud accounts. The defense established that no witnesses saw Rivas Hernandez entering the house or Burke being at the house at the time of the alleged murder.

The hearing will end with a decision from Judge Charlaine Olmedo on whether to put Burke on trial for murder, sexual abuse of a child under 14, and mutilation of a body. Burke has pleaded not guilty, and his lawyers claim he did not cause Rivas Hernandez’s death.
