In response to increasing travel demand, Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand have announced an expansion of their joint network between New Zealand and Singapore. This move is set to enhance connectivity between the two countries and key markets across Asia and Europe.
Increased Capacity and New Routes
The alliance between Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines will see a 17% increase in seat capacity, adding 72,000 seats for the Northern Winter season starting in late October 2026. Air New Zealand plans to introduce three weekly services between Singapore and Christchurch using its Boeing 787 aircraft. This addition will complement Singapore Airlines’ existing operations, which include up to 12 weekly services to Christchurch, resulting in a total of 15 weekly flights from November 2026 to February 2027.
Additionally, Air New Zealand will enhance its Auckland services with four weekly flights, utilizing both Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft. Meanwhile, Singapore Airlines will adjust its Singapore-Auckland schedule from three daily flights to two, deploying the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777-300ER on this route.
Regulatory Approval and Strategic Adjustments
The expanded schedule is subject to regulatory approval, with the changes expected to take effect at the end of October 2026. This strategic expansion comes as airlines outside the Middle East adjust their flight routes between Asia and Europe due to disruptions caused by the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
