Shreveport, Louisiana, is gearing up for a momentous Independence Day season as KTBS 3 hosts Freedom Fest 2026, part of the nationwide America 250 celebration. This year’s events honor the 250th anniversary of the United States, emphasizing the cherished freedoms of speech, religion, and the right to bear arms.
KTBS 3 Station Manager George Sirven expressed the significance of this milestone, stating, “America’s 250th birthday is one of the most important milestones of our lifetime, and at KTBS, we believe it deserves more than a single day of celebration.” The festivities began in early May and will continue through July 4th, culminating in the largest fireworks show ever seen in the ArkLaTex region.
Fireworks and Festivities
Thanks to sponsors like the City of Shreveport and the Simple Church, the celebrations will feature spectacular fireworks displays at multiple locations, including Downtown Shreveport, South Bossier, and Cypress Lake. These displays will light up the sky on July 4th, broadcast live on KTBS 3 and KTBS+ for those watching from home.
The event also includes a Flag Day Giveaway starting June 1, where free American flags will be distributed to encourage residents to display their patriotic pride. Additionally, a focus on boating safety is highlighted, with Barksdale Federal Credit Union providing vital information to ensure safe enjoyment of local lakes and rivers.
Community and Faith
A special naturalization ceremony on July 2 at The Strand Theatre will see new citizens take the Oath of Allegiance, showcasing the American dream. The Victory Belles will perform, adding a musical touch to the event. The Freedom Fest Finale will feature traditional patriotic performances by area church choirs, with messages of faith, hope, and patriotism from local clergy.
KTBS is collaborating with ABC for a 24-hour America 250 celebration, featuring live events from New Orleans and a primetime musical special from Nashville. The live programming schedule includes Good Morning America and the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, ensuring a comprehensive celebration of America’s founding.
Residents are encouraged to share their patriotic celebrations by sending photos to KTBS or posting on social media with the hashtag #KTBSSalutes. As Sirven noted, “Patriotism doesn’t have to wait until the Fourth of July. America’s 250th birthday is a once-in-a-generation celebration, and now is the perfect time for all of us to proudly show what this country means to our families and communities.”
