Shreveport woman critically injured after vehicle shot on I‑20

Shreveport police confirmed that a woman was seriously wounded Saturday morning when her vehicle was shot while traveling east on Interstate 20 near the Greenwood area. The incident occurred shortly after the victim picked up her grandson from his shift at the Amazon fulfillment center.

Details of the shooting

According to law‑enforcement officials, the driver was heading east on I‑20 when gunfire struck her car. She managed to pull over safely, and her grandson took the wheel to continue toward their destination. The vehicle later stalled near the intersection of Interstate 49 and Hollywood Avenue, where first‑responders arrived.

Shreveport firefighters responded promptly, providing emergency medical care at the scene before transporting the victim to Ochsner LSU Health. Hospital staff reported that her injuries are life‑threatening, and she remains under intensive care.

Police investigation

Investigators have not released a description of the shooter or any motive for the attack. The case remains open, and detectives are urging anyone with information to contact the Shreveport Police Department.

Authorities emphasized that they are treating the incident as a violent crime and are working with state and federal partners to identify the perpetrator. No arrests have been made at this time.

Community response

The shooting has sparked concern among local residents, particularly those who travel the I‑20 corridor daily. Community leaders have called for increased patrols and heightened vigilance on the interstate to deter similar acts of violence.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux’s office has not yet issued a formal statement, but city officials have reiterated their commitment to public safety and urged citizens to report suspicious activity promptly.

Safety tips for motorists

Police recommend that drivers remain alert, avoid stopping in isolated areas, and keep doors locked while traveling on highways. If a vehicle is fired upon, officers advise occupants to pull over safely, stay inside the car, and call 911 as soon as possible.

The investigation continues, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
