A recent discovery has made it possible to shop at Costco without a membership. Through Instacart, customers can order from Costco and have their items delivered, even if they don’t have a membership.
How it Works
When shopping through Instacart, customers can browse Costco’s selection and add items to their cart. However, it’s worth noting that prices may be higher than what members pay in-store. Additionally, some items, such as those from the Costco Food Court, are not available for delivery.
To return an item, customers must handle it through the Instacart app, rather than in-store. It’s also important to set up preferred replacements in the app before checking out, as Instacart shoppers may need to substitute items if they are out of stock.
Membership vs. Non-Membership
A basic Costco Gold Star membership costs $65 per year. If the non-member Instacart markup is around 15% or more, the math shows that customers would need to spend around $430 per year to make a membership worthwhile.
However, for those who frequently use Instacart to shop at Costco, it may be worth considering a membership to unlock lower prices. Customers who already have a membership can link it to their Instacart account to access member pricing.
