A 37-year-old Sheridan man was recently arraigned in Fourth Judicial District Court for five domestic charges. During the hearing, Jeremiah Smith pleaded not guilty to one count of felony strangulation of a household member and four counts of misdemeanor battery. The alleged criminal activity occurred in Sheridan County between June 24, 2025 and May 21, 2026.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips scheduled a three-day jury trial to begin on December 8. A pretrial conference will take place on November 12 at 9 am. Smith’s bond was continued under the same terms and conditions that were previously set in Circuit Court. If convicted on all five counts, Smith faces up to 12 years in prison and fines of up to $13,000.
Also arraigned was 51-year-old Christopher Harter, who pleaded not guilty to one count of felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine. The charge is being prosecuted as a felony because Harter has two previous drug possession convictions in Campbell County Circuit Court. A third or subsequent drug possession conviction in Wyoming results in a felony. If convicted, Harter faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
