Unemployment rates for May in Sheridan and Johnson Counties are both below where they were during the same time frame last year.
Local Unemployment Rates
The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services says the statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for May 2026 was at 3.4%, which is down from 3.5% in the month prior, but up from 3.2% in May of 2025.
Rates in Sheridan County dropped from 2.8% in April to 2.5% in May, while Johnson County’s rate dropped from 2.7% to 2.4%.
The Department says rates normally drop around this time of year, as the warmer days of late spring brings seasonal job gains in leisure and hospitality, government, construction, professional and business services, as well as retail trade.
Non-farm employment in the Cowboy State increased by 1,100 jobs from May to May.
