Sheridan, WY – The Sheridan High School Broncos football program is entering the final week of intensive two‑a‑day practices as the 2026 season approaches. Head Coach Jeff Mowry explained that the coaching staff has deliberately kept the focus on the team’s own fundamentals rather than scouting opponents.
Practice Emphasis on Fundamentals
“We really haven’t even started looking at opponents,” Mowry said. “We’ve done 100% focus on us. And so we focused on those fundamentals. We get to block better and tackle better. And we’ve done a ton of that.” The Broncos have been drilling blocking techniques, tackling form, and overall conditioning to ensure players are physically ready for the rigors of a full season.
Two‑A‑Day Schedule
Since practice began last week, the team has been on a two‑a‑day schedule, allowing coaches to reinforce skill work in the morning and apply it in live‑action drills in the afternoon. This regimen is designed to build muscle memory and improve on‑field communication among the 53‑man roster.
Looking Ahead to Game Week
Mowry noted that once the first two weeks of practice are complete, the Broncos will shift their preparation toward opponent scouting. “When Monday game week comes along, we’ll start looking at an opponent,” he said. The first game of the season is slated for early September, giving the team a few more weeks to fine‑tune its playbook.
Community Support
The local community has shown strong support for the Broncos, with parents and alumni attending practice sessions and volunteering for team events. The program’s emphasis on character development and teamwork aligns with the values of many families in Sheridan.
Looking Forward
As the Broncos wrap up their pre‑season preparation, Coach Mowry remains confident in the team’s readiness. “We’re building a solid foundation,” he said. “When we step onto the field, we’ll be prepared to compete at a high level.” Fans can expect the first home game to be announced soon, with ticket information to be released through the school’s athletic department.
