Sheridan College Hosts Free Artist Talk by Eliza Weber on Sept. 10

Sheridan College is offering a free public event that highlights the creative process of contemporary artist Eliza Weber. Her recent exhibition, which has been on view in the Edward A. Whitney Gallery since May 7, showcases a diverse range of media—including ceramic, paper, found‑object, and fiber pieces—that explore themes of interconnectedness and materiality.

On Thursday, Sept. 10, at 4 p.m., Weber will speak during a closing reception in Kinnison Hall at the Whitney Center for the Arts. The event is open to all students, faculty, and local residents who wish to engage directly with the artist and learn how she examines the ways objects, individuals, and communities occupy space.

“It has been so nice to have Eliza’s work on display all summer,” said Brittney Denham, Chair of Sheridan College’s Visual and Performing Arts department. “We are happy that our students will have an opportunity to experience it and hear her speak. It’s the perfect way to kick off the year by introducing students to a working artist and educator who is eager to share her passion.”

What Attendees Can Expect

During the reception, Weber will walk the audience through the conceptual underpinnings of several key pieces, describing how she selects materials and how each work reflects broader questions about how people relate to one another and to the physical world. She will also field questions from the audience, offering insight into the practical challenges of creating mixed‑media installations.

Students in Sheridan’s art programs will have a unique chance to see a professional artist discuss the realities of a creative career, from studio practice to exhibition planning. The event aligns with the college’s mission to provide experiential learning opportunities that bridge classroom theory with real‑world application.

How to Attend

Admission is free, but space is limited. Interested individuals should arrive early to secure seating. For full event details, visitors can click the link provided on the college’s website or call the Whitney Center for the Arts Box Office at 307‑675‑0360.

Eliza Weber’s work can also be viewed online through the college’s gallery portal, allowing those unable to attend in person to experience the exhibition virtually.

This artist talk underscores Sheridan College’s commitment to fostering a vibrant cultural environment in the community, offering residents a chance to engage with contemporary art without cost or barrier.
