The thermometer reached new all-time highs in North-Central Wyoming on Sunday, July 12th, and the heat isn’t leaving anytime soon.
Record-Breaking Temperatures
The National Weather Service Office in Billings, Montana has confirmed that the high temperature at the Sheridan County Airport for that day was 109 degrees Fahrenheit, making it the highest temperature ever recorded for the Sheridan area. The old record was 107, set four times, the last in July 2021.
The all-time record high temperature in Buffalo was also broken on Sunday, as the thermometer reached 105 degrees, breaking the old record of 104, set in June 2021. That new record was confirmed by the National Weather Service Office in Riverton, via the Johnson County Airport.
The extreme heat warning for Sheridan County and Southeast Montana that was supposed to expire at 11:59pm Monday has been extended to 11:59pm Wednesday. The warning for Johnson County has been extended to 9pm Tuesday.
Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. Extremely hot daytime temperatures combined with warm overnight low temperatures will produce cumulative heat stress, which can become dangerous to anyone without adequate cooling and hydration. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun. Plan outdoor activities during the early morning and late evening hours, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
