The San Francisco Rapid Response Network’s hotline, which provides support for individuals and families affected by immigration enforcement, is facing a funding cut. The city’s budget did not include the $1.4 million in supplemental funds that the nonprofit had requested to maintain its services.
Funding Cut Details
The funding cut means that the hotline may not be able to provide live agents to answer calls after hours or during periods of high volume. The nonprofit that manages the hotline, Mission Action, will also have to lay off backup dispatchers and may need to reduce its services.
The San Francisco Immigrant Legal and Education Network, which also receives funding from the city, was able to secure its requested funds. However, Mission Action’s request was not included in the city’s budget due to a timing issue, according to the nonprofit’s executive director.
Impact on Services
The funding cut may have a significant impact on the services provided by the hotline. The hotline provides critical support for individuals and families who are navigating the complex immigration system. Without adequate funding, the hotline may not be able to provide the level of service that it currently offers.
Mission Action is working to secure additional funding to support its services. The nonprofit has begun advocating with the Board of Supervisors to fund a portion of the missing funds. So far, $243,000 has been promised as addback funds.
