Santa Maria, Calif. – The nonprofit Serve Santa Maria is rallying local residents to join its 31st annual “Serve Santa Maria” cleanup and beautification day on Saturday, Sept. 12. The event, now a long‑standing tradition since its inception in 2010, aims to bring neighbors together for a day of hands‑on service that improves neighborhoods, parks and the homes of seniors.
Volunteer opportunities span fifteen projects
Organizer Carl Nielsen said the day will feature fifteen distinct projects, ranging from litter removal and park landscaping to fence repair and painting. Volunteers will also help seniors move items from their yards, clear fire‑damaged material from a family’s backyard, and assist seniors living at Casa Del Rio Mobile Home Park.
Two schools—Battles Elementary School and Ontiveros Elementary School—will receive a special touch as volunteers paint a United States map and a world map on the asphalt playgrounds, creating educational landmarks for students to enjoy.

On the morning of the event, volunteers should arrive at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center at 8:30 a.m. to receive assignments and safety briefings.
