Murphy’s Critique of Trump’s Foreign Policy
Murphy appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press, where he delivered a sharp critique of President Donald Trump’s foreign policy. He argued that Trump has ‘lost this war’ and that the prolonged conflict is escalating costs for everyday Americans, including higher gas prices and consumer goods.
Murphy pointed to economic strains, including gas prices near $4.20 a gallon in state markets like Michigan. He emphasized that the war needs to end because every day that the war continues, America gets weaker, Iran gets stronger, and people in the United States are negatively affected, with prices continuing to rise.
Prioritizing the End of the War
Murphy maintained that halting hostilities remains the urgent priority, even if it means accepting a ‘bad deal’ to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He criticized proposed negotiations that could involve significant financial concessions to Tehran, which he argued would be a windfall for Iran’s economy and military.
Murphy also addressed a $67 billion supplemental defense request submitted by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to replenish depleted military stockpiles. He stated that he would not vote for additional funds aimed at continuing the war, though he expressed willingness to fund replenishment once the conflict concludes.
