Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to the hospital on Sunday. His spokesperson, Stephanie Penn, confirmed to WLWT on Sunday afternoon that McConnell was admitted to the hospital earlier that morning.
Health Concerns
However, Penn declined to provide any additional information about the reason behind the senator’s hospitalization, only saying that “he is receiving excellent care.” McConnell, who is 84 years old, has represented Kentucky in the U.S. Senate since 1985 and previously served as the Senate Majority Leader from 2015 to 2021.
This comes as McConnell has had a number of health scares in recent years, including two separate incidents where he froze for more than 30 seconds at a time while speaking at events in 2023. In recent months, the senator has also been seen using a wheelchair to get around on Capitol Hill, and was hospitalized for eight days earlier this year in February for “flu-like symptoms.”
