Sen. Mitch McConnell Hospitalized

Senate GOP leader John Thune told CNN that Sen. Mitch McConnell, who was hospitalized over the weekend, wants to be back on Capitol Hill. Thune said McConnell sounded good and is following the events on the hill.

McConnell’s Health Issues

McConnell, 84, has faced a series of health issues in recent years, including a concussion and broken ribs after a fall in March 2023. He also froze midsentence during a news conference later that year.

Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming, the No. 2 Senate Republican, told CNN that he spoke with McConnell on Monday and that McConnell was looking forward to getting back to work. McConnell’s staff has not disclosed the cause of his hospitalization or his current condition.

Other senators, including Sen. John Kennedy and Sen. Susan Collins, have expressed their support for McConnell’s recovery. Kennedy described McConnell as ‘tough as a bald owl’ and predicted he would recover, while Collins said she expects him to be back on the hill soon.
