Sen. Jon Ossoff attacks Trump aide at Atlanta rally as Georgia Senate race heats up

Georgia’s senior United States senator, Jon Ossoff, used a rally in Atlanta on Sunday to directly reference Natalie Harp, President Donald Trump’s longtime executive assistant. Ossoff suggested the president’s focus on personal pursuits, including golf and travel, detracted from his duties as commander‑in‑chief.

“While the sailors on the Lincoln fight his war, while he drains our munitions and oil reserves, the president sleeps through meetings, golfs, and trades stocks,” Ossoff said. He added that the president “wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”

The remarks drew cheers from the audience and quickly prompted a response from the White House. Communications director Steven Cheung posted a strongly worded comment on social media, calling Ossoff “the biggest loser in politics” and urging him to reflect on his motives. White House spokesman Davis Ingle described Ossoff as a “cringeworthy, feminine theatre kid” and a “lightweight loser.”

Implications for the November Senate race

Ossoff is seeking a second term in the U.S. Senate, facing Rep. Mike Collins, a close ally of former President Trump who has received the president’s endorsement. A June Fox News poll showed Ossoff leading Collins by 13 points among registered voters, though campaign strategists from both parties expect the margin to narrow as the election approaches.

The exchange underscores the heightened scrutiny the White House is placing on Ossoff as he positions the 2026 midterms as a referendum on government integrity, fiscal responsibility, and foreign policy. Trump’s political operation, MAGA Inc., maintains a $400 million war chest for upcoming races and has already allocated a multi‑million‑dollar tranche for the Georgia contest.

Background on Natalie Harp

Harp has become one of President Trump’s most trusted aides, frequently accompanying him on trips to Mar‑a‑Lago, his Bedminster golf club, and other engagements. She first entered the public eye in 2019 after sharing her personal battle with bone cancer and crediting the president’s “Right to Try” policies for her recovery. Since then, she has appeared on Fox & Friends, spoken at the “Faith and Freedom” conference, and worked as a commentator for One America News Network before joining the White House staff in 2022.

According to a New York Times report, Harp sent several personal letters to the president in 2023 that reportedly “unnerved” members of his inner circle. She is known to accompany Trump on the plane’s printer, where he dictates many of his social‑media posts and text messages.

Looking ahead

Both campaigns are expected to intensify their messaging in the weeks leading up to the November election. Ossoff’s recent remarks may prompt additional responses from the Trump administration and could influence fundraising dynamics, especially as Trump‑aligned donors consider where to allocate resources.

Voters in Georgia will receive further updates as the Senate race progresses, with additional campaign events, debates, and policy statements slated for the coming months.
