The Florida Department of Transportation broke ground on a new truck parking facility in Seminole County, aimed at addressing a growing shortage of safe parking along the I-4 corridor. The project, located near the I-4 and U.S. 17-92 interchange in Sanford, is the first truck parking facility being developed by FDOT District Five as part of a larger effort to improve freight mobility across Central Florida.
Facility Details
The future facility will be built on property in the southeast quadrant of the I-4 and U.S. 17-92 interchange. Truck drivers will be able to access the site from Exit 101 at State Road 46 or Exit 104 at U.S. 17-92. Plans for the facility include designated truck parking spaces, restrooms, lighting, landscaping, and other amenities designed to provide drivers with a safe place to rest.
FDOT hosted a groundbreaking ceremony alongside leaders from the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The Seminole County site is one of five locations identified through FDOT’s Truck and Freight Alternative Site Analysis Project Development and Environment Study. Additional truck parking facilities are planned in Volusia, Orange, and Osceola counties.
Transportation leaders say the projects will help improve safety for truck drivers and motorists while supporting Florida’s growing freight industry.
