A homeowner in Seminole County, Dennis Misuraca, has been dealing with a flooding problem for almost two decades. The issue has become unbearable, with flooding damaging his drywall, flooring, and ceiling. Misuraca is worried about the health of his family and animals.
Flooding Problems Persist
Misuraca’s home, located on Narcissus Avenue near Sanford, experiences flooding almost every time it rains. He described the situation as ‘kind of like parking on top of a lake bed.’ The flooding starts when it rains for more than 15 to 20 minutes, making it difficult to access his front door.
About 10 years ago, county crews installed asphalt berms to help block water from flooding his front yard, but it did not work. Misuraca said the water is welling up from underneath and coming down from the sky. A spokesperson with Seminole County said it’s aware of the issue and continues maintenance nearby.
The area has been identified in a project within the Lake Monroe Basin Study, which was approved by the Board of County Commissioners. However, funding for the identified projects has not yet been identified, and no implementation schedule has been established at this time.
