Seminole County commissioners have approved changes to Scout ride pricing, including raising the peak-hour surcharge for most weekday commute-hour rides from $1 to $2.50 and lowering costs for SunRail-connected trips.
Improving Service for Residents
Leslie Grubl of Longwood shared concerns about the impact of inconsistent pickup times on Sanford’s homeless population trying to access jobs. The county hopes the changes will make it easier for frequent Scout users to get rides when they need them most.
Commissioners also approved capping the cost of Scout trips that connect to SunRail at $1, with no peak surcharge. The increased surcharge will not apply to discounted riders, including seniors, students, low-income residents, and people with disabilities.
The county said additional vehicles, more drivers, and new artificial intelligence technology are helping improve service. “They’ve loaded an AI agent into the app. It can quickly analyze data and see what changes it can make and how that will impact things,” Christian Swenson, assistant county manager, said.
