Secret Service Confirms Awareness of Iranian Video Threatening Barron Trump

The United States Secret Service has confirmed that it is aware of a video broadcast by Iran’s state media that appears to threaten the life of Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump. The agency said it is investigating any material that could be perceived as a threat to its protectees.

Details of the video

The nearly three‑minute clip, aired over the weekend by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), opens with an English‑language graphic that reads, “Where to kill Barron Trump?!” The video then shows stylized graphics of locations associated with the younger Trump, including Trump Tower in New York.

Secret Service response

Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring told CNN that the agency is monitoring the video and investigating any potential threat. He added that, for operational security reasons, the Service does not discuss specifics of protective intelligence.

Context of Iranian threats

Hard‑line Iranian media have repeatedly featured content threatening President Trump and his family since the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in February, an event that coincided with the escalation of the U.S.–Israel conflict with Iran. While previous threats have targeted First Lady Melania Trump, this is the first known instance of Barron being singled out in a public broadcast.

A federal law‑enforcement source told CNN that the video is part of a broader campaign of Iranian‑produced videos aimed at the Trump family. Some of the material includes movement details and suggestions for killing family members. Protective operations are constantly adjusted based on intelligence from the Secret Service, other agencies, police and foreign partners.

President Trump’s remarks

President Trump has publicly addressed Iranian threats, stating in July at the NATO summit in Turkey that he believes he is on a “list” and that the threats are coming from “evil, sick people.” He later left the summit on a military aircraft, reportedly concealed in a catering truck, after officials warned of a specific threat involving a shoulder‑fired missile that could endanger Air Force One.

Historical backdrop

The United States has warned for years that Iran may attempt to kill Trump, a concern that dates back to the 2020 drone strike ordered by Trump that killed top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani. During the funeral events for Ayatollah Khamenei in July, Iranian regime loyalists displayed posters calling for Trump’s death and offered bounties for avenging the leader’s death. Anti‑American chants and flag burnings have been a regular feature of state‑organized rallies in Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Broader implications

The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by U.S. officials and their families when foreign adversaries use media channels to issue threats. It also highlights the Secret Service’s role in monitoring and responding to such threats, coordinating with domestic and international partners to protect protectees.

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.
