Sebastian Police Department Interim Chief Timothy Wood told WPBF 25 News on September 30 that the two officers involved in the fatal shooting on September 17 have been identified as Sergeant Bryan Melius and Corporal Devin Keskinen.
Both officers have served with the department for several years—Melius since January 2017 and Keskinen since November 2020. They are currently placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure for officer‑involved shootings.
Incident details
At approximately 9:25 p.m., officers responded to a noise complaint at the 500 block of Joy Haven Drive. Upon arrival, they spoke with a woman at the residence. While they were speaking, yelling was heard from inside the home.
At 9:33 p.m., a 41‑year‑old man identified as Keaton Daucher emerged from the house carrying a shotgun. According to a police news release, the officers discharged their firearms, and emergency personnel performed life‑saving measures on Daucher.
Despite these efforts, Daucher was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither officer sustained injuries during the encounter.
Investigation
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting. No further details have been released pending the outcome of that inquiry.
Chief Wood emphasized that the department will cooperate fully with the FDLE and that the community will be kept informed as the investigation progresses.
