Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson announced a new interim police chief on Friday following the resignation of Police Chief Shon Barnes after a deadly shooting at a food festival over the weekend.
Interim Police Chief Selected
Wilson selected Deputy Chief Andre Sayles as interim police chief, citing his experience as a former police chief in Wisconsin where he led with a community-focused approach that strengthened public safety and community trust.
Sayles said the department is continuing to investigate the shooting and is looking for any other possible suspects involved. The department will also increase staff at all remaining major summer events.
Wilson is also searching for a permanent replacement for Barnes, saying the selection process will focus on someone who drives operational excellence and leads organizational change.
