A seaplane carrying eight people made a hard landing in New York City’s East River on Sunday, resulting in two minor injuries, according to city authorities.
The plane, a Kodiak 100 seaplane, made it upright and was towed back to dock, the New York City Fire Department said. Images shared on social media show a white plane leaning over on its side with the tip of its left wing in the water as a helicopter circled overhead.
The FAA says the hard landing caused a wing strut on the plane to snap. It was not immediately clear where the flight took off from, but video from inside the plane suggests the flight was about to land at the nearby Skyport.
