This Saturday, the Sportsdrome Speedway in Clarksville will host the School Bus Figure 8, an event that promises mayhem and destruction while raising money for cancer research. About a dozen yellow school buses will be racing around the speedway’s track, trying to avoid running into each other. The event serves as one of the biggest fundraisers for the Kentuckiana Friends of V, a nonprofit that funds cancer research locally.

Doors at the Sportsdrome Speedway open at 5 p.m., and the racing begins at 7 p.m. Louisville head football coach Jeff Brohm will drop the green flag, starting the School Bus Figure 8. The event will also feature Trailer Racing, a School Bus Endurance Racer, and Car Bowling.
According to executive director Jamie Valvano, the nonprofit’s mission is to fund cancer research right here in the metro. "We felt our people need help," Valvano said. "Kentucky is the number 1 state in the nation as far as cancer rates. So why are we sending money to folks outside the area instead of helping people here?"
