Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland are headed for a Monday playoff at the Travelers Championship after tying at 21-under on Sunday. Scheffler, the world’s top-ranked golfer, had a chance to win in regulation but Hovland’s late surge forced the playoff.
Playoff Details
The playoff will begin at 9 a.m. ET on the par-4 18th hole, with the player having the lower score on the hole winning the tournament. If the players tie, they will continue to play until one player has a lower score.
Scheffler entered the Travelers with only one victory in 2026, which came in January at The American Express. Despite his impressive performance this season, including eight top-five finishes, Scheffler has not been able to secure another win.
Scheffler’s Performance
Scheffler started the final round one shot behind Hovland but quickly fell into a tie after Hovland made a bogey on his first hole. Scheffler had a steady front nine, making one birdie and one bogey, while Hovland dropped a shot on the front nine.
As the round progressed, Scheffler and Hovland found themselves in a tight battle, with Scheffler taking the lead at one point. However, Hovland made a strong comeback, birdying Nos. 14 and 15 to grab a share of the lead.
Scheffler had a chance to regain control but his birdie putt on No. 17 lipped out, leaving the two players tied heading into the final hole. Both players hit solid approach shots, but Scheffler’s birdie putt was too strong, leaving him 8 1/2 feet away for par.
Hovland’s 25-foot birdie putt just missed, giving Scheffler the opportunity to force a playoff with a made putt. Scheffler drained the putt, setting up the Monday playoff.
