Neighbors on Alameda Padre Serra in Santa Barbara are concerned about a rash of recent accidents and are urging drivers to slow down. Two accidents occurred in two weeks along a stretch between Moreno and the Santa Barbara Middle School.

Members of at least 7 households have joined a group called APS Citizens for Traffic Safety (ACTS) to address the issue. They have used a radar to track speeding in the 30 mile per hour zone and reported that drivers often speed and slam on their brakes.

A mother of three, Elisabeth de Gramont, expressed worry about children and drivers, citing poor visibility and many driveways that give out directly into the street. The group would like to see a stop sign installed near the Arguello intersection, where a young person was hit two years ago while riding a scooter or skateboard.

Councilmember Kristen Sneddon emphasized the need for drivers to be cautious and attentive, especially in tight and winding streets. Residents have reached out to the Santa Barbara Police, Public Works, and their city council member after past accidents.
