Santa Barbara, Calif. – The Santa Barbara Humane Society shared several uplifting updates on its recent animal‑adoption efforts and upcoming community events. In August, the nonprofit placed a total of 269 animals into permanent homes, underscoring its vital role in protecting families and pets throughout the region.

Adoption incentives continue

To encourage more families to welcome cats and kittens, the organization is extending its popular “Thursday Purrsday” program into September. On every Thursday, adoption fees for cats and kittens are waived, making it easier for households to add a new member without financial barriers.

Free services for stray animals

Last week, the Santa Maria Clinic, a partner of the humane society, successfully altered 84 cats in a single day. SB Humane also offers free traps and free Trap‑Neuter‑Return (TNR) services throughout the month, helping to control the stray cat population humanely and responsibly.

Community events on the calendar

Animal lovers can look forward to a Kitten Yoga session on September 13 at Vida Yoga in Orcutt, a unique blend of gentle exercise and feline companionship. Later in the month, the society will host its 2026 gala on September 19. Titled “Whiskers Under the Moon,” the gala will feature cocktails, a farm‑to‑table dinner, live music, and other attractions.
