Sanger Community Mourns Loss of Collegiate Runner in Tragic Car Crash

The tight-knit community of Sanger, Texas, is mourning the untimely death of Sam Musgrave, a 19-year-old collegiate runner whose life was tragically cut short in a car crash. Musgrave, a Sanger High School graduate, had already made significant strides in his young life, having completed basic training with the Texas Army National Guard and his first semester at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.

Remembering Sam Musgrave

Known for his dedication and friendly nature, Musgrave was a beloved figure in Sanger. His uncle, Evan Vasquez, described him as someone who was ‘on the right track,’ having excelled in both academics and athletics. Musgrave was on a full scholarship for track at the University of the Incarnate Word, where his talents and positive spirit were cherished by teammates and coaches alike.

Musgrave’s life was tragically ended in a car crash that also left two other Sanger ISD students hospitalized. All three were participants in the school’s cross-country program. The University of the Incarnate Word’s track and cross-country program expressed their sorrow, noting that Musgrave’s smile and love for others would be deeply missed.

Seeking Answers and Closure

As the investigation into the crash continues, Musgrave’s family is left grappling with unanswered questions. ‘We don’t really know what’s happened,’ Vasquez shared, highlighting the family’s struggle for closure amidst their grief. Authorities have yet to release details about the cause of the crash or the conditions of the other students involved.

Despite the lack of answers, Musgrave’s family holds onto memories of his aspirations and the impact he had on those around him. ‘He had big dreams to run cross-country, own his own business, serve his country, serve his family, protect his family and protect his country,’ Vasquez said, reflecting on the young man’s ambitions and the void left by his passing.

The Musgrave family is currently raising funds to cover unexpected expenses following Sam’s death, as they and the community continue to come to terms with this profound loss.
