Located in the heart of San Francisco, The Pressroom and Mercantile is a one-of-a-kind destination for anyone interested in vintage advertising and ephemera. The store, situated at 1073 Howard St. near Seventh Street, is home to over 300,000 items, with many more hidden away in the building’s nooks and crannies.
A Life-Long Collection
Owner Mark E. Sackett’s collection has grown to more than 15 million antique printing and ephemeral pieces over the years. His fascination with vintage items began at a young age, when he would admire the miniature beer bottle salt-and-pepper shakers at his grandfather’s house in Kansas City.
Sackett’s collection includes a wide range of items, such as vintage bottle caps, typewriters, and children’s books. The store also features restored letterpress machines and a vast array of advertising materials from defunct businesses.
A Unique Shopping Experience
Visitors to The Pressroom and Mercantile can expect to find a treasure trove of unique and fascinating items. The store is open Monday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sackett is often on hand to share his knowledge and passion for the collection.
The Pressroom and Mercantile has attracted a dedicated following, including rapper Snoop Dogg, who is also a collector of physical ephemera. Sackett has said that he no longer collects much, but sometimes he can’t resist the temptation to add to his collection.
