A woman was attacked by two men at Friesenhahn Park on the city’s North Side. Irma Hernandez said she was walking the trails when she was approached by two men who pushed her, took off her glasses, and began hitting her.
Attack Details
Hernandez, who wears a 15-pound weight vest while walking, said she was fighting back against her attackers, who demanded money from her. They also drove off with her vehicle after taking her keys.
A nearby parkgoer walking their dog may have inadvertently saved Hernandez, as the attackers stopped hitting her and ran off when they noticed the other person.
Hernandez suffered a fractured bone near her elbow during the attack. The San Antonio Police Department is still investigating the case and has recovered Hernandez’s vehicle at an apartment complex.
Hernandez hopes that sharing her story will encourage others to be cautious and aware of their surroundings, especially in public places like parks.
