Negotiations are ongoing between the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Police Officers Association (SAPOA) regarding police officer pay raises.
Proposed Pay Raise
The union is proposing a 21% wage increase, while the city is countering with a 13% pay raise over three years. The city’s most recent proposal also includes a 15% wage increase on the current contract that was approved in 2022.
For comparison, the San Antonio Fire Department received a 20% raise in its labor agreement that took effect two years ago.
Tentative Agreements
Tentative agreements include additional supervisors for police security at major events, family leave in the event of miscarriages, and the removal of 10-hour shifts.
A major factor in the negotiations is the city’s projected $157.7 million budget deficit over the next two fiscal years.
The two sides will meet again on July 9. The union represents 2,850 police officers in San Antonio.
