On Feb. 21, 1994, 15‑year‑old Christi Kaufman and her 23‑year‑old cousin Debbie Perkins were shot inside a home on the 100 block of Fredonia Street in San Antonio’s East Side. Perkins was six months pregnant at the time of her death.
What investigators know
San Antonio Police Department cold‑case files indicate an intruder entered the house just after 1 a.m., apparently looking for Perkins’s boyfriend, who was not present. A witness in a back room heard an argument followed by multiple gunshots. Both women died from their wounds.
The suspect is described as a slender‑built man wearing a white T‑shirt and blue jeans, driving a blue Oldsmobile Cutlass. The case remains unsolved and is listed under SAPD cold‑case number 94‑097522.
Family’s ongoing fight for justice
Patrick Kaufman, who was 16 when he learned of the murders, has spent more than three decades seeking answers. He repeatedly visits the homicide division, files Freedom of Information Act requests, and urges anyone with information to come forward.
“San Antonio is small, to a certain extent,” Kaufman said. “Somebody has been spoken to. There’s a cousin that knows, there’s an auntie that knows, there’s a friend that knows somewhere — there is somebody.” He asks for empathy and compassion from anyone who may hold a clue.
Police response
San Antonio Police Department confirmed an active investigation continues. The department asks the public to call the Cold Case Tip line at 210‑207‑7401 if they have any information.
