Alexis L. McDonald, 32, died on Wednesday, Aug. 5, from injuries she sustained in the crash, which happened Monday, according to the Salem Police Department. McDonald and a 45-year-old man were on a central Salem sidewalk when a car hit them without stopping and drove away, witnesses told police.
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of Northeast 17th Street. McDonald was taken to Salem Hospital with serious injuries, and the second victim sustained minor injuries and stayed at the scene.
Investigation and Charges
After arriving at the crash, police officers searched the nearby area and found the car involved several blocks away along with the driver, identified as Tristen G. Wilson, 28. Police arrested Wilson on scene, and he has been in custody at the Marion County Jail since Tuesday.
Wilson now faces criminal charges including second- and third-degree assault, driving under the influence of intoxicants, unlawful cocaine possession, failure to perform driver duties, and reckless driving. He also is accused of driving while his license was suspended.
Court records show his license was suspended as part of a 2024 intoxicated driving case out of Umatilla County. In January, a judge ordered a license suspension for one year. He’s scheduled to appear in court Aug. 11.
