A Russian soldier was almost killed when a huge machine gun started spinning wildly out of control during training. The incident, which was captured on video, shows two members of a mobile army unit attempting to fire the gun from a truck. However, the soldier quickly loses control as the gun spins and flings him through the air.
The other trooper has to duck to avoid the rotating weapon, which is thought to be a YakB-12.7 rotary machine gun. This type of gun is usually designed to be fitted to a Mi-24 helicopter mount, but the unit was attempting to fire it from a truck. The recoil caused the weapon to spin out of control.
A popular online Ukraine war commentator noted that the incident highlights the dangers of using an aircraft rotary gun with brutal angular recoil as a regular ground weapon. The commentator stated that the unit ignored the fact that the gun was designed for aircraft use and instead slapped it onto a ground setup, assuming it would work like a regular stationary machine gun.
