Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that a deal had been reached with Syria regarding the future of Moscow’s military bases in the country. The agreement is seen as an important step in boosting ties between the two nations.
The Syrian foreign ministry stated that the Syrian state would take over management of civilian facilities, including Hmeimim airport and the commercial berth at Tartous port. Military facilities will be repurposed as joint training centers, with the transition to be completed within three months.
