The Runnin’ WJ Benefit Barrel Race was held at the Four States Fairgrounds over the weekend, raising funds for the nonprofit’s therapeutic horseback riding programs for adults and children with special needs.
Supporting the Community
The event, which marked the ranch’s 25th anniversary, was supported by volunteers, contestants, vendors, and all involved with the ranch. The proceeds will help care for the horses, support daily operations, and fund learning programs and scholarships.
According to Equine and Barn Manager Micah Neal, the program has a profound impact on the participants, helping them with sensory, cognitive, emotional, and social development. Neal stated, ‘I see miracles almost every day, and it’s one of the most beautiful things that there is.’
Runnin’ WJ Ranch covers four school districts in Texarkana and has riders ranging in age from four to 52. The nonprofit is also funded by private and anonymous donations and grants. Those wishing to donate can visit the ranch’s website.
