Country singer Rory Feek is sharing a terrifying medical emergency that nearly cost his family everything. His 12-year-old daughter, Indiana, was rushed to the hospital and ultimately airlifted by helicopter after a sudden health scare left him and his wife, Rebecca, fearing the worst.
Indiana’s Health Scare
Indiana, who was born with a congenital heart defect, had undergone open-heart surgery just two weeks prior to the health scare. According to Feek, the scare started with a headache and a cough, but quickly spiraled into a life-threatening emergency.
Feek described how he and his wife suspected a stomach bug at first, but their suspicions changed when Indiana collapsed after walking back to her bedroom. Feek said he and his wife were scared and begged for help as they called 911.
Indiana was first taken to a hospital in Waco, Texas, before doctors determined she needed specialized care in Austin. She was transported by helicopter while Feek followed in his truck.
Doctors soon discovered a dangerous buildup of fluid surrounding Indiana’s heart that was preventing it from pumping properly, requiring emergency surgery. The procedure brought immediate relief, and doctors say Indiana is doing great and should make a full recovery.
